7th Weekly Report – Team 10

6:00 pm Monday, February 8

Participants:

          Pierre, Gilbert, Irene , Alex and Toni

  Agenda:

• Discuss the progress of Hydrological Analysis distributed among the subgroup.
• Discuss the Progress in the task with Mike 11 sub group
• Organize next task.

Outcome:

• Gilbert reported that he and Fabrico uploaded the MIKE_SHE, HEC-HMS and LISEM models together with results in the group folder on the nice server. And all other group members agreed to check it and comment on the results.

• The different hydrographs obtained using different methods and by different people will be compared and agreed to take the better one which gives close values to the measured discharges to use as boundary condition for Mike 11. Piere will send the hydrograph he obtained using theoretical method (SCS) to the group memebers.

• Mike 11 subgroup started working on it and piere has had a first attempt to calibrate the model and got some results using the hydrograph he generated using the theoretical method.

• By next week an organized report of hydrological analysis comprising all the methods used will be uploaded. Till then the Mike 11 sub-group will keep on working using the tentative hydrological results.

• We will have calibrated Mike11 model with the weir structures, just as it looked like before weirs got destroyed by the Flood and we use the result of this model to propose some solution to avoid flood.

6th Weekly Report – Team 10

Participants:

          Bianca, Pierre, Alex, Gilbert, Jihee, Fatima, Toni and Irene

  Agenda:

•  Discuss the progress of the tasks of GIS and Hydrological Analysis distributed among the subgroup.
• Organize next task.
• Reorganize the working groups into account the new members.

Outcome:

•  The Hydrological Analysis group is working in the task. Gilbert and Fabricio are working on Mike SHE in order to obtain boundary data for Mike11 and to calibrate a model. Also they are working in HEC-HMS to calibrate the model. The final results will be on Monday.
• The Hydrological part will be completed until February 20.
• GIS part is over. Irene finished off part IV of the GIS analysis which generates Thiessen Polygons, and also calculation of different areas of each Sub-catchment which are in the different Thiessen Polygons.
• Bianca asked the Hydrology group to work on the nice server.
• A new sub-group with Pierre, Alex, Gilbert and Toni will start with setting up the network in MIKE 11
• A chronological work plan for Hydrological Analysis and Mike 11 group is needed in order to organize the next steps.
• The girls sub-group will work with ISIS. Will start with the tutorials.

News:

• One of our team members Alemayehu Shitaye has joined us. He will take part in modelling task with the Hydrological analysis group.

• Fabricio has extracted data from DEM and TIN using GIS, now he is building a model in HMS (Hydraulic Model Soft)
• Pierre has finished the runoff calculations using rainfall data extracted from GIS land use maps
• The third part of the GIS analysis of separating the different sub catchments into land use regions and calculating the percentage of impermeability was finished by Jihee

4th Weekly Report – Team 10

Participants:

          Bianca, Fatima, Fabricio, Pierre and Toni

          (Irene had already informed us that she will not be

          available for this meeting)

Agenda:

          o Discuss the problems faced and progress of GIS tasks so far made

          o Share the approach to extract data for Hydrological Analysis

          o Improvement of web-performance

          o Access to web server

Outcome:

          Irene made a work plan for GIS group and divided tasks into

          four groups. Bianca has finished first task of creating TIN and

          DEM of 75m grid resolution. Second task of dividing whole

          catchment in sub catchments and getting information data for these

          sub catchments (area, slope, flow direction, drainage length,

          longest flow path for each sub catchment, mean slope) has been

          finished by Fatima.

          Pierre prepared and shared the work plan for Hydrological

          Analysis group and he has shared the useful data (hydro file) with

          Fabricio to proceed further and finish off their tasks.

          As Pierre has taken the responsibility of web-performance, he has

          updated the team web page and uploaded team introduction video on it.

          It was also explained in the meeting that how to access web server

          to carry out our tasks using and use common folders.

What’s New:

          One of our team members Toni Carrasco Valverde has also joined us to

          achieve our targets on time. And he will take part in modelling task.

Next Meeting Agenda:

          JiHee and Irene will finish off the sub task of GIS which include

          separation of different sub catchments into land use regions and

          generate the Thiessen Polygons, calculate the different areas of

          each sub catchments which are in the different Thiessen Polygons

          (Rainfall Distribution).

          Fabricio will do the Hydrological Analysis using data provided by

          Pierre.

3nd Weekly Report - meeting of the Monday, January 11

5.30pm  - Members Online:

Fatima, Pierre, Bianca, Irene & Jihee

The different points below had been presented during this meeting:

·         Make precise work plans, with the different steps and tasks for the two first workgroups: GIS and Hydrological Analysis. Make a draft of each of them for the end of the week and exchange ideas between members of each groups.

·         Moon Jihee has joined the GIS team.

·         Bianca is the new Team Coordinator. She will have to fix meeting date and people than can’t assist a meeting will have to tell her as soon as possible.

·         Concerning data storage in the remote desktop: each member will create a specific folder. Complete data will be store in a final folder by each group (GIS / HydroAnalysis).

·         Pierre is responsible for the hydrological analysis work plan ; Irene for the GIS one

Different points which will be talked next time:

·         Organize and begins the different tasks of each group (GIS and Hydrological Analyses) and define responsible people and time needed for each of them – update work plans

Other ideas

·         It could be fine if any group can make a list of the data they have, the data they obtained and what we could do with them. Maybe create a new part in the website like “Data Library”

2nd Weekly Report – Team 10

Meetings and Participants:

Wednesday 6^th Jan 2010—with Fabricio, Gilbert, Bianca (Irene, Fatima, Pierre, and Ji had informed us in advance that they could not participate)

Friday 8^th Jan 2010—with Pierre, Fatima, Irene, Fabricio, Bianca (Gilbert had informed us in advance that he could not participate)

Outcomes:

• So far we have 6 active group members. We decided to get started on our own to avoid problems with the time schedule – the other members are of course still encouraged to contact us and join us.
• Pierre offered to work on our web-performance.
• Formation of sub-groups to divide the engineering tasks

–      “GIS group”: Irene, Fatima, Bianca

–      “Hydrology group”: Fabricio, Gilbert, Pierre

What’s to do next:

• In preparation of the next meeting each sub-group will review the available data for their tasks and define the results they need from the other sub-group.
• Concerning the GIS data the girls agreed on staying in contact via email.
• Main objective of the next meeting is the preparation of a detailed work plan (responsibilities, time schedule, etc). Pierre suggested using the programme MS Project to prepare the work plan.

Remarks:

Fabricio informed us that he will not be able to participate in the meeting. Since he was supposed to write the weekly report for that particular week, Pierre offered to take over this task. The following table shows the responsibilities for the next weekly reports (we can still change it, of course).

Report 1 - Friday Dec. 18

We had our first meeting on Friday 18 at 16:30; during the meeting were present Bianca Raepple, Irene Seco and Fabricio Fiengo. During this first approach we defined some rules and guide lines for the future work; the summary of meeting is:

·         Individual presentation

·         Distribution of responsibilities, Bianca Raepple is the coordinator, Irene Seco and Bianca are responsible for the rules elaboration and Fabricio Fiengo must write the first repot and publish it.

·         Our meetings will be done skype and email for this reason every one must check his email regularly.

·         All the members must read the information and the data about the basin that is published in the website before Monday 21th of December. 

·         All the members must send their suggestions by email before Monday in order to build an agenda.

·         We will have a second meeting on Monday 21th of December in this meeting we will assign the task.

·         Gilbert Nyandwaro sent an email apologizing because he could attend the meeting, and Rubab Fatima Bangash couldn’t attend also the reunion.

·         The rest of the members have not reacted yet but we are still trying to make contact with them.
