Hey everyone,

Lets have our weekly team meeting this Thursday again, but at 7pm mainland Europe time, since most of you wanted to have it earlier. Should be a quick meeting just to see how everyone is progressing, and also to discuss the points that Dr. Cunge gave us in his email he sent. Please read the email before the meeting.

Cheers and see you on Thursday

04.01.2010 Andrew: Weekly Meeting

Happy new year everyone! Since it is the new year, we have to start having our weekly meetings again. Could we meet this Thursday evening around 8pm mainland Europe time? We will need to divide the tasks up for what needs to be done before we meet in Feb. David has mentioned he could do some of the GIS stuff, so we can talk about that and also anything else. so See you all this THURSDAY 07.01.2010!

Andrew

29.12.2009 David: GIS

Hi guys, i have worked before with the Spatial Analysis tool of ArcGIS so I can do the task of delineate the catchments and the rivers. I havent found the reports from previous years, so if anybody can tell me where they are, I ll do that task. Have fun in New Year s Eve and see you soon (in skype of course). Bye!!

18.12.2009 Andrew: Help with platform

Hey,

I think that some of the features on the platform might not be so intuitive to use. I found a tutorial that explains how to upload files and create links and tables, pages, etc. Here is the link:

https://www.hydroeurope.org/jahia/webdav/site/hydroeurope/shared/public_files/PlatformTutorial.pdf

Also, I think it would be nice to put a bit more information about ourselves on the platform with a picture as well. That way we will know what each of us look like before we meet in Nice. Perhaps we can add a link to our names under team 4 and when we click on it we can link it to a doc or pdf or html with some info. I will try to do it now and perhaps we can do this as our work for the christmas break (in addition to looking at what has been done by previous students for the hydrological analysis).

Cheers,

Andrew

18.12.2009 Nadine About GIS

Hey

First of all: Your login to the server is your username and your password from here. IP adress of the server is 134.59.160.1. Use Remote Desktop connection. If you don't know how that works, let us know. So, now you can use all the software theoretically. Yay :)
Second: we had a meeting with our supervisor here in Cottbus and tried to do the GIS analysis up to the point of delineating the subcatchments. There were problems with the liscense so we actually didnt do it in the end but anyway.
If you wanna try, use the topo300 grid. It's faster. To use it you have to correct its Ascii file first though. So go to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESRI_grid and look how a file should look like to be able to be imported into ArcMap. Change the ncols and nrows thing in the topo300.asc. Then take the GIS report of a group from last year and try to follow the steps that they were doing. That's basically it. Does everybody know how to use ArcGIS?
From ArcGIS we will get the input data for our hydrological analysis. I understood it like this that we will have to try different methods to generate a hydrograph which we will use for our flood model. One of those methods will be Mike SHE but others could be like Nash or soccose or however they are called. But first things first :)
Well, any problems don't hesitate to call your operator ;)

Have a nice christmas time!

Nadine

Remote Desktop Program

Hey Guys,

I have a little problem whit the Remote Desktop. I have connected to the main server, but when I started some programs (e.g.: GIS, MIKE) my computer was dead. I have asked an informatics programmer who sad, problem is coming from the server not with my computer. The question is: have you  tried these programs, and what are your experience?

Oh, and of course: Happy New Year!
